Connecticut Guild of Puppetry Celebrates 30th Anniversary. Thirty years ago the Connecticut Guild of Puppetry received it’s charter from the Puppeteers of America and has been one of the most active supporters of puppetry in the country. In honor of our birthday the Guild invites you to come to our party and have a wonderful time. (No presents please.) At 2pm on October 22 the Guild will kick off the puppetry marathon with a general membership meeting. One of the highlights of the meeting will be the official Connecticut unveiling of the new Henson Stamps. Our friends at the US Postal service will be on hand to share with us this piece of puppet-philatelic-paraphernalia and one lucky guild member will win a framed set of stamps for their very own collection. Following the unveiling a presentation of puppet films will be screened by HandMadePuppetDreams. Heather Henson, youngest daughter of Jim Henson, is the driving force behind HandMadePuppetDreams which was screened at the National Puppet Festival this past summer. You can see more information about the film at: www.handmadepuppetdreams.com. At 5pm Guild members are invited to stay for light supper, coffee and cake. Guests of guild members are invited to stay as well for a nominal fee. Please e-mail: donna@ctpuppetry.org or call Donna Hurwit at 272-2541 for dinner reservations. Dress is puppety-causual. And for those of you with the stamina and courage a puppet slam will be offered at 7pm, with a discounted fee of $10.00 for guild members. The list of performers is still being finalized as this is written but some of the very talented performers who will be showcased include: Larry Hunt, Anna Vargas, Marilyn O’Connor-Miller and Rolande Duprey. For those folks not familiar with “puppet slams” this will be an adult orientated, experimental series of short vignettes presented in a cabaret style. It will be silly, thoughtful, and wonderful for people 13 years or older. The event will be held at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center in Meriden, you can take a tour at: www.curtisculturalcenter.org . I think you will agree that the building is breathtakingly beautiful and you will understand my excitement at presenting our event there. I hope you will come for as much of the day as you can. I know it will be a very fun event, Hope to see you there,
